A rare example of a Hopi coiled plaque with deer motif. The deer motif represents a prayer for abundant game and a good harvest. The deer are very skillfully woven with the faces and horns nicely detailed. Muted colors and fat coils characteristic of plaques made between the 1920’s and mid-century. Traditional Second Mesa colors - natural yucca (golden), earth red, and black. Excellent condition. Coils are tightly woven. No stitch loss. Came from a collection in California. 12 inches in diameter.
